The delegated character names the figure that appears in a generative image without ever having existed — a face without a single referent, produced out of the statistical flesh of the many. No one posed for it; and yet everything in it was posed.
The name points to a double delegation. On one hand, the human presence is delegated by the system: the character carries a life no one has lived. On the other, in the regime of distributed intentionality, the author too delegates their intention to the system, the material and the public — not losing it, but redistributing it. The delegated character is where these two delegations meet in a face.
